Meath Sports Awards Sponsor

Now in its 12th year, the annual Meath Sports Awards took place at the Knightsbrook Hotel in Trim on Friday, 18th January 2019.

Versatile Group proudly sponsored the Sportsperson of the Year Award. As a Meath family-run business based in Navan (with lots of sporting talent amongst our team!), this one is close to our heart.

The 12 monthly winners contending for the overall award were interviewed by MC RTE’s Evanne Ni Chuilinn, who hosted her eighth awards ceremony this year.

With each of the 12 contenders a worthy finalist, we’re glad that it wasn’t us having to choose the winner! Take a look at all finalists here.

Outstanding racehorse trainer, Gordon Elliott, scooped Sportsperson of the Year Award, presented by Versatile Group’s MD, Andrew Treacy. Gordon won the monthly award for March as he enjoyed a marvellous Cheltenham Festival. He retained his leading trainer’s title with eight winners over the four days. In a great year, he also won the Aintree and Irish Grand Nationals and late in the year the American equivalent and he also enjoyed success at Royal Ascot.

Other big winners on the night included Matthew Costello, who picked up the young sportsperson of the year award, Kells Handball Team who won the team of the year award and Nichola Duffy, who won the outstanding achievement award.

A wonderful night was had by all at the black-tie awards ceremony, with Versatile’s Andrew Treacy & Catherine Treacy busy presenting awards to each of the monthly winners as well as the overall Sportsperson of the year winner!

Sincere congratulations to all the winners and finalists from the whole team at Versatile Group and continued success for 2019!
