The Glucksman Library, Limerick
Mini Canal Trench
The University of Limerick recently unveiled the dynamic and inspiring New Glucksman Library, designed to transform the Library and the University for scholarship in a digital age.
The Glucksman Library at the University of Limerick is one of the biggest campus libraries in Ireland and one of the most digitally advanced in the world.
The project provided the University with a new 7,600 sq. m extension, doubling the size of the original Glucksman Library building, and included extensive refurbishment of the existing facilities.
The dynamic new library was dramatically re-imagined and extended with a sequence of open-plan, flexible, naturally-lit and ventilated interior spaces, each with a distinctive character, allowing for mood change and multiple uses, from the quiet traditional reading and study areas to more vibrant and technology-infused group and collaborative spaces.
Increasing and optimising the available study space brought the student-space ratio down from one space for 13 students to one in six in line with world-leading universities.
Versatile Heating, Cooling & Ventilation’s Jaga Mini Canal trench heating solution was specified for this project. Perfect for providing heat alongside glazed facades, the Mini Canal is discreet and convenient – especially as it is delivered fully-assembled and ready to fit.
The heater is extremely versatile, with its varying depth, size and multiple grille material options. The Mini Canal uses Low-H2O technology, saving energy costs while remaining highly responsive to temperature changes.
