This building was redeveloped and designed to accommodate 1,100 employees. Versatile supplied fan coils and trench heating as part of the strategy to deliver a highly efficient, low-carbon, well-ventilated, and ultra-low acoustic commercial space. The Challenge The primary challenge was achieving zero-carbon certification for the older, existing building. This required addressing three main technical areas: Space Optimisation, Acoustic Performance, and Energy Efficiency: Versatile Fan coils were fitted to optimise ceiling space due to restricted low ceiling heights. Trench heating and cooling was crucial for optimising space utilisation. Achieving WELL Platinum status mandated that our fan coils meet ultra-low acoustic performance standards. The overall design required high energy efficiency to meet BER A3 and LEED Platinum targets. The Solution Versatile successfully retrofitted the building to meet all requirements. In some cases, due to low ceiling constraints, we installed wall-mounted fan coils (in addition to our ceiling mounted fan coils) from our Net Zero Range. We supplied trench heating and cooling to free up valuable ceiling space. This approach provided discreet heating and cooling, which did not disrupt the interior design while ensuring employee comfort. The ultra-low Specific Fan Power (SPF) of the fan coils helped the building to achieve BER A3, LEED Platinum, and Carbon Zero status. The low acoustical fan coil design helped secure the WELL Platinum certification, creating a healthy and comfortable workplace.
